We Tried 6 BucketGolf Hacks: Here's What Made the Game Even More Fun
Whenever our group gets together, someone always wants to bring a game. We've played everything from spikeball to volleyball, but recently we decided to give BucketGolf a try.
You may have seen BucketGolf popping up all over TikTok and Instagram lately, the viral backyard game that turns golf into a fun, social competition anyone can join. After seeing it everywhere, we had to find out if it was actually as fun as it looked.
After a few rounds, we realized the game was already a lot of fun, but with a few small changes, it became even better.
If you're planning to play BucketGolf this summer, here are a few things we'd definitely do again.
2. Give Every Hole a Theme
Instead of making every hole the same, mix it up.
Some of our favorites were:
Left-handed only
One-handed swing
Eyes on the target until impact
Longest drive competition
Closest to the bucket without landing inside wins
Not every challenge was a good idea (some were surprisingly difficult), but they definitely kept everyone on their toes.
3. Add Team Challenges
If you've got a bigger group, try splitting into teams instead of playing individually.
It kept everyone involved, even if someone wasn't the best golfer. There was plenty of cheering, a little friendly trash talk, and somehow every missed shot became everyone else's fault.
4. Make It a Night Game
Bring out some glow sticks or LED lights and keep the fun going after sunset.
Wrap glow sticks around the buckets, mark the tee areas with lights, and use glow in the dark golf balls if you have them. It completely changed the atmosphere and ended up being one of my favourite summer memories.
5. Create a Trick Shot Hole
Every course needs one impossible looking hole.
Maybe you have to bounce the ball off a sidewalk, hit over a picnic table, or curve around a tree. Trick shot holes usually end up being everyone's favorite.
At one point someone decided to put a bucket behind a tree and said, "Good luck."
It turned into the hole everyone talked about the rest of the day. Some people tried to curve around the tree, others aimed for crazy bank shots, and nobody wanted to admit defeat.
If you only steal one idea from this list, make it this one.
6. Don't Overthink It
Our biggest takeaway? The less seriously you take it, the more fun it becomes.
Some of our best shots were complete accidents, and the funniest moments came from the swings that completely missed the bucket.
It's easy enough for anyone to pick up, making it the perfect game for family gatherings, camping trips, beach days, or backyard BBQs.
